A study based on the sermon: Live Wisely & Speak to People About God
Reading Colossians 4:5-6
- What is wisdom?
- Where can we find wisdom?
- In the sermon we spent some time looking at what it means to fear God (Psalm 111:10); what does it mean and why is it important for us to have a proper understanding of that?
- What does it mean to make the most of every opportunity, and also what does it not mean?
- Discuss verse 6 as a group and talk through how we might practically apply to our lives here and now.
The Sermon was looking at Hosea 9:1 & 10:12
here it is in case you missed it – Make or Break!?
- take a few minutes to re-cap on Hosea. Why do you think it’s so repetitive?
- Read Chapter 9 verse 1 and also 2 Kings 15:19-20 which is the background – what was going on, who were the people trusting, why and what would be the result?
- Are there any parallels for the UK today?
- Read Chapter 10 verse 12 and take some time to discuss this verse in the context of individual lives, the life of our church and the life of our nation. How might we or might we not follow this command?
It’s incredibly concerning to see that across social media, and within our state broadcaster and other media, there is an appalling lack of wisdom in words uttered and views shared when it comes to the outcome of the referendum last week. What is even more shocking is the lack of grace, wisdom and love being shown across the Christian Church:
Democracy is an amazing thing…
…and the democratic process last week is proof of that. There will be those who are delighted that their view prevailed and others sad that theirs didn’t…
…but complaints against democracy are a very dangerous
I have no doubt that just under half of the readers of this will be sore at the outcome, and just over half will be delighted, but what is required now is for people of all political views, of both the in and the out voters to stop battling and start getting on with the all important job of moving ahead positively; to avoid either vitriol or triumphalism and take a measured positive step, followed by another and another.
however we exercised our democratic right on June 23rd 2016, Britain can an will be great, but only if we so choose…
Christians are at risk of being appalling witnesses by showing a severe lack of compassion and wisdom in this!
Let’s not let this political vacuum intensify the spiritual vacuum – Let’s show the love of Christ as we navigate through the minefield of politics ahead, and let us stand firmly on His Word: continuing to be salt and light to a fallen world, and facing the future with His hope, be steadfast in sharing that hope with the world around us.
Ps 133:1: How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!
The following prophecy which came to David Noakes, from the Issachar Ministries Trust, came our attention this week, and we are posting it here to enable us all to test it against scripture and bring to the Lord in prayer.
“Nation of Britain, I have loved you with a love which has not ceased, despite the state of apostasy and degradation into which you have fallen. My anger towards those church leaders who have taught false things in my Name, and encouraged others to believe and act as they do, is intense and my judgment upon them will be severe. Yet I have compassion upon those who have been like sheep without godly shepherds; and my heart still longs to exercise mercy upon a nation whose forefathers upheld my Name and took my Word to the ends of the earth; a nation whose belief in the truth of my Word framed godly laws and inspired a culture of uprightness.
“Rather than rely on Me and my faithfulness to you, you chose, for worldly purposes, to join yourself to an institution which has denied my Name and refused to acknowledge Me in its councils. My fierce anger is upon that institution on account of its rebellion, its defiant rejection of me and its hardness of heart towards my ancient people Israel.
“I warn you now that the European institution will not repent, even though I bring disaster and destruction upon it. I urge you, O Britain still beloved by Me for the sake of your godly forefathers, come out of her, so that you may not be caught up in that same destruction, for I am even now arising in judgment to bring to nothing what she has sought to achieve. If you will separate yourself from her declared rejection of God, I will have mercy upon you and restore my hand of protection; and I will use you once again to bring light to many lost in the darkness which is now steadily increasing.
“Hear Me, O once godly nation and respond to my call, or you also will come to ruin in that same judgment of destruction. This is not my will for you, but you must choose the course which you will take. I urge you to respond to Me and choose life under my hand of discipline and protection, rather than death in the disaster which is even now coming upon Europe.”
