A study based on the Sermon : Top (Teamwork Obedience and Prayer) Christians 

  1. Looking back at the whole book of Colossians, what are the key points?
  2. What can we learn about ministry from verses 7&8?
  3. What is Paul’s attitude to imprisonment? What might we learn from that?
  4. Mark’s clearly part of the team, but what can we learn about his ‘backstory’? [Acts 12.25; 13:13; 15:38-39]. How should we learn from what we see of Mark’s journey in faith and ministry?
  5. Verse 12 – prayer what does praying earnestly mean?
  6. Verse 14 – what do we know about both Demas and Luke [from further study in the NT]?
  7. Discuss how verse 17 might apply to us.

  1. What is wisdom?
  2. Where can we find wisdom?
  3. In the sermon we spent some time looking at what it means to fear God (Psalm 111:10); what does it mean and why is it important for us to have a proper understanding of that?
  4. What does it mean to make the most of every opportunity, and also what does it not mean?
  5. Discuss verse 6 as a group and talk through how we might practically apply to our lives here and now.

Some study questions based on the sermon Do You Have Real Peace?

  1. Read Colossians 2:8-14
  2. Verse 8 – How might we be captured, and by what kinds of empty philosophies and high sounding nonsense?
  3. Verses 9 & 10 – Why is it crucial that we see and believe the truth that Christ is both completely man and completely God? Also what does it mean, “that you are complete by your union with God“?
  4. Verses 11 & 12 – Discuss what we heard in the sermon about these verses on circumcision and baptism. How might we overstate or understate the importance of a public declaration of faith in baptism?
  5. Verses 13 & 14 – Pastor says, “These are powerful statements and if taken to heart will have a profound affect on the believer” Do you agree, if so (or not) why, and what difference is it going to have on your life with Christ?

This study is based on the sermon Nothing New Here!

  1. Read Colossians 1:24-29; what are your first thoughts?
  2. Paul says he is glad to suffer and that he is participating in the sufferings of Christ [cf. 2 Corinthians 11:23-27]. Talk through what he means and how we should apply this in our lives.
  3. Paul is at pains to make clear that he is a servant for God. Discuss why it is important that we understand this and live it out.
  4. What does it mean to preach the whole gospel and how do we do it?
  5. God’s wisdom and strength are the key to Paul’s service – are we working, serving and living in His strength, power and wisdom? what difference does it make?
